Teacher Interview
Here is the link to my Teacher Interview. As new teachers, we should all be looking to the previous generation for advice on how to manage a classroom. They have had years of experience and they know what works and what does not. I have many teachers in my family so I interviewed my mom, Mrs. Kroese. Even though we have talked about teaching many times, we had never discussed classroom management. This was a wonderful opportunity for us to have this conversation. In this blog post, I will reflect on a few key ideas from the interview. The first idea that stood out to me was Mrs. Kroese's philosophy of classroom management. She said you have to be able to enforce reinforcements and punishments. In Chapter 7 Woolfolk (page 269), we learned about the importance of reinforcement and punishment as a way to make a behavior more prevalent or make a behavior disappear. I think we as educators need to remember that sometimes the classroom is a safe space for our students and it's something that we don't even realize. When we have students who come from a home life that is broken or the student is going through a tragic event it is important that we make sure their educational experience can help them stay afloat mentally. A lot of people including myself are blessed with great home lives that we forget that other have it way worse then us. I agree fully with you that being sensitive in the classroom to the family dynamics of a student is essential to allowing them a successful classroom experience. Going into the PE field I want to make sure that my classroom/gym is a place that the students can forget about things for a while and just have a great time and stay active!
ReplyDeleteI think that as educators it is important for us to remember that there is more than just what is happening inside the classroom for the students. They all have stuff going on outside of school. Whether that's different battles inside their heads or something actually happening outside of the classroom in their daily life. Each student is effected differently by what is happening outside of the classroom and we need to keep that in mind when we are teaching.
